Good morning!

Here we are with a new round! I think I never talked about the library here! The school has this beautiful library, full of books and always buzzing with students: they really love reading! One day, I found myself reading with a group of girls, bathed in the warm sunlight that filled the room and made the atmosphere feel even more magical. I really love the cozy carpet culture, where everyone sits down peacefully with their own book, each person lost in a different story, and time just flies by!

But, you know, in the end reading is also a beautiful moment of sharing, and so here I am, with a book in Polish in my hands! I honestly have no idea what I was reading, what the story was about, or anything else, I just know one thing for sure: children are always adorable. This little girl saw me pick up the book and try to repeat the sounds of the words correctly, so she came and sat next to me to repeat them with me and help me improve my pronunciation.
How lucky am I?

Another thing we can always count on is “gym time” every Monday: in the afternoon, we all gather to spend some time playing our favorite sports, whether it’s basketball, volleyball, hide-and-seek, soccer, or just running around. You can do it all! The gym is really huge, so there’s always enough space for everyone to have fun, and as you can imagine, the kids are never short on energy or the desire to move!
The other day, I woke up with a tune stuck in my head, a famous children’s song I grew up with and used to play with all the time. I couldn’t wait to get to school and teach it to the kids! Of course, it was a bit tricky to learn at first since the lyrics is in Italian and they had to figure out which sound matched which gesture, but it turned into such a beautiful moment! They had a blast trying it out, and now they keep asking me to play it again, sometimes I even catch them humming the melody to themselves just for fun. It’s adorable! After I shared that song with them, they gave me a wonderful gift in return: they taught me the tune they use for a very similar game in Polish! So we all gathered in a circle again to try out both games, now I’ll show you the two videos from that moment!

Another day during these two weeks, a new volunteer came to visit me at school, to help promote the world of volunteering even more and to hopefully inspire more people to take part in this experience, at least once in their lives. Of course, to give her the full experience of what my days here at the Świetlica are like, we welcomed her by showing her some of the typical activities we do together, which, by now, I’ve already told you about many times.
So here I am again, playing Just Dance and Jenga, part of my everyday life here.

And honestly, thinking that in just four weeks these moments will be over already makes me feel a little nostalgic for all the beautiful times we've had.
Seeing how, even though I’ve only been here for two months, I’ve truly found a place in the hearts of these children, seeing how they look to me as a point of reference, come to me for help with all sorts of things, and are always excited to play, never turning down any game I suggest, it all makes me incredibly happy to be here. And it makes me proud of the choice I made to embark on this experience.
Polish spring is always unpredictable, you can go from a super rainy day to blazing sunshine in... well, not even a whole day, sometimes just a few hours! What does that mean? That as soon as the sun comes out and we get the chance, we make the most of it and head outside to play!
Over the past few weeks, we set up this beautiful colorful sheet, which the kids have turned into a little hideout where they gather to talk and play.
We’ve played the hand game I mentioned earlier more times than I can count, and we’ve happily relaxed and soaked up the sunshine.
And honestly, their playground is amazing! Between volleyball, basketball, football, running, swings, and so much more, time just flies. Here I am, entertaining the kids on this big round swing. They could spend hours on it! I always end up pushing them while they chat endlessly, swinging back and forth, completely happy.

And to wrap it all up, look, we built a spaceship! The kids were beyond excited watching it come to life. With every new piece we added, they got more and more thrilled, realizing what each part was for and how it would make the whole thing even more magical. And in the end, they were so happy to see it complete!
Maybe it’s a spaceship ready to take us on our next big adventure?
